An Exciting Time By Norah Monaghan

Summer '19 came and went in the blink of an eye. It seems like in no time sophomore year was starting. Sleeping in most days  until at least 10 would leave you to believe that when the first day came around, I'd be well rested, but on September 3, I had to force myself out of bed.  Though the months of no homework, tests, and projects coming to an end is sad, it's also exciting. Coming back to school means that sports start again. Playing sports is one of my favorite parts of school. I play field hockey in the fall and lacrosse in the spring. I keep telling my friends that I'm going to do winter track because, for the most part, I like running, but we all know that I'm not going to follow through with it.
 Lacrosse is my favorite sport. I've played lacrosse for six years, and a lot of my friends today are the people I've played with. I have so many fun memories from lacrosse and even thinking about them now I laugh. One time my friend, Sofia was playing goalie and she stepped on the net of the goal and knocked it over. When still laugh about this story today. Freshman year I was on varsity lacrosse, which I didn't expect to happen.  I'm so excited for lacrosse this year, I can't wait for the spring season.
 Even though I've only played field hockey for a little over a year, it's a close second to lacrosse. I enjoy playing field hockey because even though everyone is there to win games, it's still a very calm and laid back environment.  Last year I was on j.v for field hockey because there was no freshman team. At first it felt like the other freshman and I were being thrown to the wolves because we had never played before, but I think it made us overall better players.  This year I am a varsity swing. I'm excited to see how this season goes because last year I was learning the game, and now because I know it, I can't wait to enjoy it more!

          When I contemplate what is most important in my life, my mind is drawn to my 21-year-old brother, Tom. There are not enough words in the English language I could use to describe what he means to me. I cannot imagine the past fifteen years of my life without him. Allow me to start from the beginning.           Even when I was an infant, he never failed to take me out of my crib, strap me in my high chair, and cook scrambled eggs for us (at the tender age of six). He did this so my mother could catch up on sleep in the mornings and take care of me however he could. I only wish I could return the favour in some way. Not Fate, Just a Coincidence - Sila Paniker

The idea of fate confuses me. I don't really understand how something will happen no matter what you do. It just seems very unlikely. I think we're constantly making choices that lead to occurrences. We make so many decisions a day that it seems impossible that fate can find a way around it all.  Awhile ago, I saw something called the Butterfly Effect, which doesn't exactly relate to fate but it makes sense to me. The idea is that a butterfly flapping its wings can cause a tornado on the other side of the world. Essentially, small changes can have large impacts. In my head, this connects with the thousands of tiny decisions we subconsciously make each day. There are people I've met or things that have happened and it feels like it was meant to be but they're just a bunch of coincidences that had the ability to change everything.
