Dropping out- By Bektur Totoshev

I'm sure many of you have heard of a highschool or college dropout who would later go on to make millions and billions of dollars, whether starting a tech conglomerate in a garage or becoming an up and coming musician. Those success stories challenge so much of what has been drilled in our brains about school, wavering the belief that school is needed for success.
It makes me wonder, what would happen if I dropped out? Would I end up the streets without a formal eduaction, or would I soar with the newfound freedom? My belief is that it really just depends on what you want to do as an occupation.  If you want to become something like a nuerosurgeon or psychiatrist, there is no way to make it there without a diploma. But if you want to become a comedian, singer or actor, I think that you wouldn't need a formal education. As long as you work on your skills concerning that occupation and you think  know you have the talent for it, then yeah, dropping out wouldn't be the end of the world. But because there's so much competition for dream jobs, if I was chasing my passion and there was a risk it wouldn't work out, I would have a backup plan I could fall on if I fail.

  1. I personally don't believe that dropping out of high school is a good option no matter what career choice you are pursuing. High school builds good social skills and educates you enough where college is an option not a need, but a high school diploma is a need in my mind.

    1. A great response and maybe college can be skipped to pursue some fields, but high school should be a given for all people who are lucky enough to attend!

    2. I agree with Sofia in that dropping out of high school should never be an option. Many more people are given the opportunity to go to high school than college just because of expenses. If you are given the chance to go to high school, which usually doesn't come with expenses, you should definitely take that opportunity because it will only enhance your learning.

  2. I feel like that its a huge risk to just make the excuse, successful people did it, so I should do it, and possibly sacrifice your future.

  3. High school isn't actually needed for as many things as you would think. Personally I wouldn't drop out of school, but most people think school is needed for every imaginable career choice

  4. It is cool to think about what you would do if you were to drop out of high school, but I think it's way to big of a risk to take because there are no guarantees of jobs if you drop out of school. If you finish school and/or go to college, there will always be something that you can do for a living.

  5. Personally, I wouldn't drop out of high school or college. It's just too big of a risk to me, because there is so much opportunity that school can give me. Especially college since it would be able to launch me into a successful career. Although it is something to at least ponder about, I would never do it (unless I somehow become a famous child-musician).

  6. High school is a great gift that many people don't get the opportunity to participate in in different places! As much as we may believe it is pointless, I think everyone should still be grateful to be in High school.
