High School Soccer Season- Hayley Ouimette

I've always loved to play sports, either on a team or just for fun with friends and family. The one I've stuck with and definitely gravitated towards my whole life is soccer. I've been playing since I was 5 years old. I played with all my friends I have today, whether it was their parents coaching or mine, we all played together, and that was my favorite part.

As I got older, soccer was my escape and when I was on the field I wasn't thinking about anything but the game itself. My friends and I all joined a travel team coached by a couple of their parents. Going to games and practicing all the time with them is some of my best memories. Soon, travel soccer turned to club soccer and all of a sudden it was 3 times a week with games every weekend which was much more competitive and demanding. While playing club, I wasn't with any of my friends anymore. I soon started to lose my love for the sport as years passed not playing with them. I would travel half an hour to practices every week and hours for game and tournaments to play with girls I barely knew. This was the reason during middle school I was always so excited to play for the high school team, I could finally be with my friends again.

Freshman year was the first time I was back on the field with the girls I love the most. I loved the game again. We ended up being undefeated, getting back on the bus after each game all laughing and smiling, and just being happy. We'd always bast music, screaming and singing until the bus driver finally told us to quiet down. Highschool soccer was the relaxing, fun game that I loved and actually wanted to play, but when the season ended it was back to club.

Now, sophomore year, back in the high school season, its the only thing that makes me not completely hate coming to school. I get to focus on something other than tests, or quizzes, or any homework I have and just have fun. So, I think now I know what I mean when I tell people I love to play soccer. I love high school soccer, the stress of club and the obligations for it is what I don't. After this season, I'm quitting club and for the first time, not doing soccer year-round. I'm going to be able to study and do homework at my house, and not in the car to practice or at 11 o'clock coming back from a game. Sophomore year I'm just going to be happy with what I do and out my time and energy towards school, family, and friends.
