High School Volleyball by Gabby Olarte

     As summer was coming to a close, I think we can all agree that we were pretty upset. We had to trade days full of swimming and hanging with friends to studying for quizzes and waking up early each day. However, one thing I looked forward to all summer was high school volleyball.

     Volleyball is my favorite sport which is why I couldn't wait for it to start. This sport has allowed me to make so many new friendships and meet new people. Recently for team bonding, we went to a haunted house together and it made us all a lot closer. I love the support we have for each other. Whether we get the point or don't, we cheer each other on always. The bus rides to games are always a blast because we blast music and all sing along which really hypes us up for the games. Our team is doing really well right now and our record is 9-1. 

     Recently our team played Dover. We wanted to honor Steven Gomez-Restrepo, who was a sophomore at Dover High School and sadly passed away. Dover's school colors are orange and black. So we all wore orange hair ties/pre wrap and some of us bought an orange bow to put on our shoes. The money from the bows were given to his family.

          When I contemplate what is most important in my life, my mind is drawn to my 21-year-old brother, Tom. There are not enough words in the English language I could use to describe what he means to me. I cannot imagine the past fifteen years of my life without him. Allow me to start from the beginning.           Even when I was an infant, he never failed to take me out of my crib, strap me in my high chair, and cook scrambled eggs for us (at the tender age of six). He did this so my mother could catch up on sleep in the mornings and take care of me however he could. I only wish I could return the favour in some way. Not Fate, Just a Coincidence - Sila Paniker

The idea of fate confuses me. I don't really understand how something will happen no matter what you do. It just seems very unlikely. I think we're constantly making choices that lead to occurrences. We make so many decisions a day that it seems impossible that fate can find a way around it all.  Awhile ago, I saw something called the Butterfly Effect, which doesn't exactly relate to fate but it makes sense to me. The idea is that a butterfly flapping its wings can cause a tornado on the other side of the world. Essentially, small changes can have large impacts. In my head, this connects with the thousands of tiny decisions we subconsciously make each day. There are people I've met or things that have happened and it feels like it was meant to be but they're just a bunch of coincidences that had the ability to change everything.
