The Endless Summer...Until School Started
By Bella Verdesco
Imagine this: Waking up every morning to the scent of the ocean breeze and the seagulls singing their song, as you hear the waves crash on the pillow of sand beneath it in the distance. It's a beautiful morning until... BAM... your two months are up and the luxuries are all gone. You now have to wake up to a 5:30 alarm to slave away about seven hours of your day to school. With the snap of Aladdin's genies fingers, you're now back to the basic reality of school. The dream instantly turns into a chill, shuddering nightmare as the grip of upcoming stress closes in on you. Well, that's what happened to me at least. It all happened so fast. I can remember the day that my family and I took the two-hour trek down to our house in Seaside Park. Unpacking our bags and heading directly up to the beach. The thought of all the fun nights with my best friends Mary-Rose and Paige still linger in my mind. Now, my nights consist of memorizing permutations and combinations for math class.
My life this summer was filled with fun memories that I want to keep creating. I had an amazing job working as a surf instructor this year. Every day I would come to work and see a new kid join camp with a smile on their face, which would make my day even better. I had lifeguard training two days a week, and even though it was brutal, I would gladly go back just to see my fellow trainees. On Fridays, I would go surfing with Mary-Rose and try to practice new tricks on our boards before getting called in by the lifeguards working that day. The late-night coffee and hot Cheetos run to the 7/11 downtown, biking to the bay-side park, going to the concerts in town, and taking the perfect VSCO pictures down at the marina all fill my head still and make me miss summer even more.
Look, I'm not trying to belittle school. It's only been three weeks and there's a lot to look forward to this year. However, if I had the choice, I would much rather spend seven hours at the beach rather than spend seven hours of my day going from class to class.

What if we had school at the beach?? : )
