The Tragic Proposal by Talia Criso
On Thursday September 19, 2019, fate took a turn for the worse. Steven Weber and his girlfriend, Kenesha Antoine, took the trip of a lifetime to Pemba Island, Tanzania. According to Weber's sister, Mandy Weber Hoffman, Steven had been planning on asking Kenesha to be his wife during this trip for over a year, thinking it was the perfect opportunity.
The couple had been staying in a wooden cabin, which had an underwater bedroom with glass walls to look out into the ocean. Steven's plan was straight out of a movie: he went into the water and swam up to the bedroom's wall, holding up a note asking her to marry him in one hand and a ring in the other. Kenesha had recorded his proposal, and in the video you can hear her say, "Yes! Yes! A million times yes!"
Here is where the happiest day of there lives would soon become the saddest. Kenesha quickly ran to the shore to see her new fiance, however he never came out of the water. Investigators are still not sure if he got caught underwater or hit his head, but Steven Weber had drowned and died.
This heartbreaking story makes me wonder, would he have been better off proposing traditionally, above land, down on one knee? He could have spared his own well being, but his epic romantic gesture was an unforgettable mix of adventure and excitement. Steven's intentions were sincere and possibly record breaking, unfortunately they had cost him his life.
Soon after, Kenesha Antoine had posted on Facebook, "I will try to take solace in the fact that we enjoyed the most amazing bucket list experiences these past few days, and that we both were so happy and absolutely giddy with excitement in our final moments together."
This story makes my heart heavy. I can't imagine the devastation and sadness Kenesha is feeling right now. Though she lost her true love, I'm glad she was able to meet and spend time with such an amazing guy. I hope she will be able to make it through this traumatic experience and time of grief.
Captured in Kenesha's video, the note says:
"I can't hold my breath long enough to tell you everything I love about you. But, everything I love about you I love more ever day! Will you please be my wife? Marry me?"

This is such a tragic story for Steven and Kenesha. The event was truly a tragedy. I wonder what the true cause of death is? Will they release the answer soon?
ReplyDeleteomg!! that is insane
ReplyDeleteWhat a tragic tale. Makes me feel sick and so sad for them.
ReplyDeleteThat's awful. She seems to be taking it well though so good for her. I really can't imagine what it's like to lose the love of your life like that, especially right after a proposal.
ReplyDeleteWell now you know not to propose under water. But that is still terrible.
