What Would You Do On the Last day of Your Life? - Olivia Enderle

On October 1, 2019, an asteroid had a trajectory that was dangerously close to the earth. On that night 4 asteroids were potentially hazardous, including 2019 SD8 that passed at about 331,000 miles from Earth at 10:29 p.m. EDT. Just a day before the astroids close approach to Earth, the space rock was found by the Catalina Sky Survey in Tucson, Arizona. The asteroid was about 38 feet wide, compared to the size of a city bus. A rock that size had the potential to do serious and harmful damage. The thought and reality that anything like that can happen force me to realize how little I have lived. I know, I know, you might think I'm crazy for critiquing how much I have done when I'm only 15 but I hope to accomplish these extreme activities before my life is over.

1.Volunteer at an Elephant Rescue in Thailand
This is a special place where there was an eclectic bunch of Asian Elephants; some old, some young, some blind, some injured from working in the logging industry, some abused and some rescued from the circus. Not only will you be able to feed these majestic creatures, but you can also take them down to the river for a bath.

2.Dogsled Through the Alaskan Forest
You will be able to experience the thrill of this popular sport in Alaska first hand by meeting Iditarod racers and their powerful pooches, plus sledding along some of the mountainous terrain that their dogs train on.

3.Sleep in an Ice Hotel in Sweden
The IceHotel is built from natural ice and snow. It is an art exhibition as much as a hotel, where the canvases span from floor to ceiling. Spend the night in one of their negative-five-degree rooms, where you will be surrounded by artistically chiseled ice. It’s a bonus that there is also a chance of seeing the Northern Lights from their location on the bank of the Torne River.

4. Release Baby Turtles into the Ocean
Visit their hatchery along the beach to assist them in releasing baby Olive Ridley turtles into the ocean. Not only is it incredible knowing you are helping with these endangered animal's survival, but they are adorable too!

5. Take a Flyboarding Jetpack Flight
A tube attached from your feet to the jet ski pushes water and propels you into the air. The feeling of flight above water seems like nothing else.

6. Rappel Down a Waterfall
A short trip by jeep to get to King Louis Waterfall. But, that added to this adventure. Once there, the group is given a very brief rappeling lesson and then left to tackle the impressive 100-foot waterfall.

Although I only listed 6 (extreme) activities, there are many more that I strive to accomplish. Living a wholesome life isn't all about what you do in your time, it's about the friends you meet, the relationships you build and the adventures you experience. When my time has finally come which I hope is in a long time), I want to leave this world feeling that I have truly lived.

  2. This is really interesting! I've never taken the time to consider what I would do on the last day of my life. I would likely try to spend as much time with my family and friends as possible. It's shocking that an asteroid came so close to Earth without me hearing anything about it.
