Eli the snowman - By Charlotte Putnam

Image result for snowman with a coatIt was a crisp day. Mark woke up to see the big puffs of cold white snow falling. Mark's mom gently knocked on his door and calmly said "No school today sweetie. The roads are too slippery."

"Oh my gosh, YAY" Mark leaped out of bed excited for the lack of school.

"I'll go make some hot cocoa" his mom said "and you can go play in the snow with the neighborhood kids."

Mark thanking his mom ran out of his room throwing on his overall snow pants and mittens.

Outside Mark and the other neighborhood kids had snowball fights, snow angels, and made igloos and then they all had a snowman competition. Each kid worked hard on building their own perfect snowman.

It grew dark and all the kids went back home into their cozy houses. Mark walked into his own abode greeted by a cozy fire and warm hot cocoa.

The next day Mark and all the other kids had to wake up to the disappointment of going back to school. As Mark ran to the bus stop he saw his little snowman sitting in the middle of his yard. For some reason Mark thought he looked sorta sad and cold so he gave him his big puffy blue coat, and walked off to school.

Mark was sitting in English when it happened. A soft knock on the window, "tap tap tap". Mark looked up bored out of his 8 year old mind to see a little snowman with a puffy blue coat on staring at him. Mark jumped up in shock, but promptly sat back down when some kids began to stare at him. The snowman motioned for him to come outside, but Mark told him to just wait. The last five minutes slowly ticked by. When the bell finally rang Mark jumped up and ran out of the school. He met up with the snowman at the same wall of his classroom and stared pondering what was happening. Eventually Mark asked "How did this happen"

To which the snowman replied saying "I don't really know, but it happened after you put this coat on me"

Mark was amazing but being he was just a little kid who still believed in magic he went with it. "This is so cool!!! But what's your name?"

The snowman sat there for a bit thinking until finally "I don't think I have one"

Eli thought for a second a decided "Then I'll name you. How about Eli?"

The snowman got super excited "Oh its perfect! I love it!"

Eli and the snowman hung out everyday after school. Until one late December night it began snowing. The snow didn't stop and it never slowed. Once again school was canceled. The kids all played in the snow having a great time. School was canceled for a whole week because of the snow. Christmas was coming up and it was still snowing. Over the course of 2 weeks it had continuously snowed equaling 8 feet.

It was December 23 when the announcement came out. Santa popped up in the news formally announcing. "There is to much snow, Christmas is CANCELED".

When Mark heard this he hollered "NOOOOO, NOT CHRISTMAS" he turned to Eli "What are we gonna do"

Eli thought about it "Lets go save Christmas"

"How"

"We will travel to the North Pole and talk to him"

"Sounds like a fantastic idea"

That night Eli and Mark slipped out into the cold and began their journey. They hopped onto the bus and sped off. After a long journey the pair woke up to find themselves passing through a super snowy area. "This must be it" Eli said.

They jumped off the bus and began to search for Santa. Not to long later a huge building could be visible. It was red and green and blasting Christmas music. Eli and Mark walked right up to the door and knocked. The door opened to reveal a huge inside filled with gifts of every size. They walked inside and begun asking around for Santa Clause. Eventually they were directed towards a gold and peppermint scented office covered in wrapping paper. Santa's voice greeted them loudly "Well helloooo, how may I assist you?"

Mark nervously replied with "We need you to not cancel Christmas"

Santa passed the room "I have to their is to much snow, not even Rudolph can see"

Eli stuttered "S-sir, if i m-may. I am a s-s-snow m-man. I think that I c-can help you."

Santa thought about it "how could you help me?"

Eli confidently responded with "As a snowman I can easily see in this blizzard"

Santa thought about it and eventually he agreed. "Okay. I will not cancel Christmas"

Mark and Eli cheered happy their plan worked out.

That Christmas was a wonderful one. The snow finally stopped and their were presents under the tree. Eli and Mark gave each other a high-five knowing they saved Christmas.
