Heroes in Greek/Anglo-Saxon (I am grouping the types of historical literature we have read) writing are very obvious and much of ancient Greek literature involves a central hero or a supernatural story. In modern day English, however, the plots are less often mythical and more realistic. Since each person has a different definition for heroism, modern day heroism literature can be more varied. Ancient Greek writing is very often far-fetched, however. There are many similarities and differences between the two types of writing, but first I will run through the most significant differences. I am merely a reflection of your life. Each and everyday people look into me just to see an image they are never truly happy with. I see them approach me and I watch as their faces change, starting off normal, at first smiling or making a goofy face or peace sign, then slowly return to their judgmental, criticized selves. They look into me, creating a version of themselves that emphasizes everything they find "imperfect" about themselves. The appearance in me is not the one I see looking at me. I see peoples beautiful selves, I see what makes them unique, I see what they are blind too. The figure they create does not match the one standing out in front of me, they look at me disgusted with what they see, coming closer to see themselves better to only be disappointed. This variation they make is so much worse then what it is, and there is no way I can change how they see themselves. Every day I'm looked into with such hated eyes, eyes wishing they could change the face or body looking back at them. I wish I could show them what everyone else sees, without the biggest critic tearing them down, themselves.
