Lacrosse Season by Liz Aldrich

When I think of lacrosse season, so much comes to mind.
I think of the crisp cool afternoons, with the sun peeking through just enough to warm the field so when you lay your body on it you instantly enter a daze of comfort. I think of the loud, packed bus rides screaming along to the pounding music in our ears. All in unison singing to the same song after a great win. I think of the walks down the field every day with my friends, scrolling through the woods, reminiscing on our day or our weekend.
Lacrosse season is when I am the closest with al of my friends, because I spend almost every single day with them, catching, throwing, running, and talking.
Lacrosse season is when I am most in shape because I have no choice but to run laps every single day, and although I dread it in the moment, I am so relieved and content with myself that I did it.
I also think that being outside in the sun for the better portion of my afternoon also gives me endorphins or something because my mood is definitely better than the winter prior when I spend all my time inside.
Although I love lacrosse season with all of my heart, there are some aspects I do not love. The beginning of the season, for example, is the death of me. At the beginning of the season, that is where the heart of our conditioning is and let me tell you, its brutal. That is also the coldest time of the season because it is right at the in-between time of winter and spring. We have to wear layers and layers of socks, leggings, sweatpants, sweatshirts, gloves, so many clothes! It is absolutely frigid out there and we have to practice on the paved parking lot at Feldner field because the regular season fields are not open at that point due to snow. Although I absolutely dread that part of the season, it is all worth it when it comes down to the weather warming up, us getting back on the fields, and the games starting.
Mostly, I love staying after school and knowing that the rest of my day will be spent well, having nothing but fun with my friends. Only 6 months left until I am back to the absolute best time of year.

  5. I agree with your last paragraph, all though the beginning of the season is really cold and is mainly conditioning, it is all worth it because I get to play the sport I love and spend time with a great team! I can't wait for this season!
