Tattoo Artist: Who is it for?
Me: Someone special someone I had known since we were 6 months old running around in diapers, eating apple slices with peanut butter. Eventually processing to wearing princess dresses and eating triangle-shaped sandwiches and having tea parties with her two older sisters. Playing dress up all day and then hiding in her closest from my mom who was there to pick me up, we thought we were invincible and untouchable. We were young and innocent when the only pain we felt was the splinter in our hands. But we became teenagers and pain was part of the game.
We were the two where if she did something stupid I was right by her side doing it will her. We duck taped pillows to our chests, got on a trampoline and pretended to be sumo wrestlers bouncing into each other and getting high off the laughter. We strapped a chair to a skateboard, put on helmets and went down a hill until our knees were bloody but it didn't matter because we did it together. No matter how much time we spent apart we always fell right back into place. So imagine my surprise when the person I loved the most wasn't there for me anymore. And staring up at the sky telling her what I did that day wasn't the same. There was no sarcastic comment or inappropriate joke as a reply. So imagine my surprise when I woke up today 18 years old, and she wasn't here getting this tattoo with me. Instead, she is laying 10 feet under watching me from above, with tears in her eyes wishing she was here because we had planned this since we were 12. All I can hope is that she is sitting up there with my birthdate on her wrist saying "I got mine now it's your turn Hottie". "Hottie" was what she called me and I called her "sexy".
Tattoo Artist: Who was she?
Me: She was my Best Friend
