So in class we were reading "Oedipus The King" and I was chosen to read the part of Creon. One day I had to be reading a lot of long paragraphs with some difficult words. A bunch of these words I couldn't exactly pronounce. There were two words in particular that I really struggled with. And both times it ended with the class laughing at me. As I was reading a decent sized paragraph I came upon a word I didn't know how to say I tried my best and ended up saying be-thro-thold the class laughed at me and my table informed me the word was actually betrothed. I was quite red in the face and I continued reading. Eventually I came to a new word that I didn't know. I took my best guess and confusedly said "ma lady?" At this again the class laughed at me and again i was informed it was the word malady.
Fast forward to the next reading day I kindly asked Mrs. Kopp if someone else could read because the previous time I had a lot of difficulty.Lucas was volunteered and he accepted the part, but was quite confused when he realized I was in class and not sick at all. He read our part and at the end of class Mrs. Kopp and I thanked him. He then asked why I didn't read and I explained to him how I had a lot of difficulty last time. And then Mrs. Kopp JOKINGLY said "It's because she's a brat" And everyone who was left in class including me laughed.
That was one of the funniest days in English. And to this day the table and I still laugh about it thinking it's quite hilarious.
Dont worry I messed up a couple of words too :)
ReplyDeleteI messed up reading a lot too. There are so many difficult words!
ReplyDeleteBruh you didn't even tag me
ReplyDeleteHahaha - I'm glad you took the humor in stride! Never worry about messing up while reading, especially something from Old English - everyone does it!
