Fate By Anthony Del Coro
Through out class this year we have discussed the idea of fate while we read different plays like Oedipus the King which discussed the idea of fate a lot. Personally I think that the idea of fate is confusing and unrealistic. We saw examples of fate in the play Oedipus the King when he tried to escape his fate of becoming king, but it didn't matter what he did. This raises the question as to whether fate is actually something that controls all of our life choices or just an excuse for the bad ones.
I would like to think that everybody's fate is not predetermined and that I make my own decisions. But sometimes it feels like something happened for a reason, whether it was for the better or worse. Sometimes you just feel like something was meant to happen, like being in the right place at the right time or meeting someone that turns out to be your best friend. So, I don;t know if fate determined that we should be friends or if it was just luck that we became friends. I would like to think that I had some power in choosing my friends.
Thinking about fate and how it intertwines with every choice you ever make is like thinking about "Back to the Future", it hurts my head. Everyone tells us that we need to plan for the future and make good decisions now so you don't regret them later. There are so many things that could have happened and so many decisions that could have been made differently. So now i'm not sure what is real. I find it better to just not think about it at all.
Fate is definitely a confusing topic to think about in depth. I agree that somethings are fate, but our decisions still can have an impact.
ReplyDeletethinking about things like this is so stressful, especially when you have no idea or vision for your future. I'd also like to think that fate is undetermined, otherwise it would be cruel to struggle for so long to figure out your life, if it might just go down a predetermined path
ReplyDeleteIt can feel overwhelming to think about!
