Predetermined Destiny by Gabby Olarte

    Or maybe the reason you didn't choose that other option is because you were following the path fate has laid out for you. Just thinking about this hurts my brain. But just take time to think about it. Is your life already laid out for you or is it happening as you go?

    Recently in our class we had assignments and discussions dealing with predetermined destiny or fate. We saw examples of this with Oedipus where he was unable to escape his fate for becoming king, no matter how hard he tried. This got me thinking about whether we already have a fate for ourselves, or we build our future as we go along each second of the day.

    I like to think that my fate isn't predetermined and that I make my own decisions. But sometimes I feel like it is predetermined. Have you ever felt like you were in the right place at the right time or met someone that you jut click with?  Could it be fate that brought you two together or put you in the position you are in right now?

    It's crazy to think about because the logic is that our decisions effect our future. We're told this all the time, by parents, teachers, etc. "Make good decisions now because they will impact your future." I mean, it makes sense right? Think about it. There are so many situations in your life where you could have chose a different option than you did. What would be different if you chose the other option?

          When I contemplate what is most important in my life, my mind is drawn to my 21-year-old brother, Tom. There are not enough words in the English language I could use to describe what he means to me. I cannot imagine the past fifteen years of my life without him. Not Fate, Just a Coincidence - Sila Paniker

The idea of fate confuses me. I don't really understand how something will happen no matter what you do. It just seems very unlikely. I think we're constantly making choices that lead to occurrences. We make so many decisions a day that it seems impossible that fate can find a way around it all.  Awhile ago, I saw something called the Butterfly Effect, which doesn't exactly relate to fate but it makes sense to me. The idea is that a butterfly flapping its wings can cause a tornado on the other side of the world. Essentially, small changes can have large impacts. In my head, this connects with the thousands of tiny decisions we subconsciously make each day. There are people I've met or things that have happened and it feels like it was meant to be but they're just a bunch of coincidences that had the ability to change everything.
