Types of Snow Days-- By Kaleigh West

As I sit here on our eighth straight day without school, I figured that I would classify my experiences on each surprise day off.

1. The First Snow Day (snow days left for the year: 4)
The First Snow Day is by far the best one. Nothing makes me happier than finding out that my weekend is going to be a day longer than expected. It's always fun and relaxing to sit at home and watch the grey, post-autumn-foliage world get coated in a blanket of fluffy snow. As long as the power doesn't go out (side note: somehow I never lost power), I am free to do whatever I want to help relax myself in anticipation of our return to school.

2. The Second Snow Day (snow days left for the year: 3)
The Second Snow Day is mostly expected, especially after hearing about all of the power outages in town. This extra day off is nice, but not quite as nice as the first one, since at this point, I haven't seen my friends in six days. To ease this thought, I think to myself that seeing them tomorrow will be even more exciting than it would have been to see them today. After all, the harder the battle, the greater the triumph.

3. The Third Snow Day (snow days left for the year: 2)
The Third Snow Day comes as a little bit unsettling to me. I wasn't expecting it as much as the previous two. At this point, I am bored. In fact, I become so bored that I begin to do homework. The fact that I have not had face to face communication with anyone other than my family in seven days is a bit unnerving, but using the same logic as the day before, waiting longer to see my friends will make it that much better when I do get to see them. In addition, it crosses my mind that it is only the first week of December and we only have two more snow days to get us through the rest of the winter, and that it looks like we may have to go to school over Spring Break.

4. The Fourth Snow Day (snow days left for the year: 1)
The Fourth Snow Day is unwanted. At this point, I am driving myself crazy because I have not left my house in five days (due to the fact that my parents still had work most of the week and when they didn't, the roads were too bad to drive on). To make things worse, it is very likely that we will be going to school over Spring Break because we only have one built in snow day left, which at this rate, may be used tomorrow. The lack of schoolwork that I have done over the past eight days has begun to eat at me, since I am used to constantly having homework. The things that I normally wish I have more time for, such as Netflix and Instagram, now seem like they are mocking me because they are some of the only things I can do right now.

Whether or not we have to experience The Fifth Snow Day is yet to be seen. Hopefully, power will be restored and the roads will be cleared so that we do not have to go there.

  2. Supposedly Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday were pulled from our emergency days off, so we still have four left of our allotted five snow days! We do not have to worry about losing days of our Spring Break.
