Dance by Hannah Ramos

Dance is so important to me that my entire life basically revolves around it. The hours of travelling, the late nights of homework, the absurd number of absences from school, the sore muscles, and so many little stuggles, are all so that I can do what I love. Not only do I love dance itself, but my dance company has become like a family to me, and I've met some of my absolute best friends through dance. One thing that I am especially grateful for is the oppurtunities that dance has created for me, one of which being travelling the world. Last year I went to Cuba and learned from one of the best dance companies in the world, and recently, this year, I went to India and performed in the biggest show I have ever seen. These trips have been eye-opening and amazing, and the best part was that I spent them with my bestfriends. As cheesy as it sounds, dance is an escape for me. When I'm at dance, there's no drama, no school work, no stress, and I don't have to think about anything except dance. Even if I'm confused about topics in school, or got into an argument with someone, I can completely forget about it for the 4 and a half hours that I'm at dance. While all of these reasons why dance is important to me sound cheesy and deep, the best part is that dance is just fun. From dancing in a small studio, to performing infront of thousands of people on the other side of the world, it's all just fun. I couldn't ask for anything better to spend my life doing.

          When I contemplate what is most important in my life, my mind is drawn to my 21-year-old brother, Tom. There are not enough words in the English language I could use to describe what he means to me. I cannot imagine the past fifteen years of my life without him. Allow me to start from the beginning.           Even when I was an infant, he never failed to take me out of my crib, strap me in my high chair, and cook scrambled eggs for us (at the tender age of six). Not Fate, Just a Coincidence - Sila Paniker

The idea of fate confuses me. I don't really understand how something will happen no matter what you do. It just seems very unlikely. I think we're constantly making choices that lead to occurrences. We make so many decisions a day that it seems impossible that fate can find a way around it all.  Awhile ago, I saw something called the Butterfly Effect, which doesn't exactly relate to fate but it makes sense to me. The idea is that a butterfly flapping its wings can cause a tornado on the other side of the world. Essentially, small changes can have large impacts. In my head, this connects with the thousands of tiny decisions we subconsciously make each day. There are people I've met or things that have happened and it feels like it was meant to be but they're just a bunch of coincidences that had the ability to change everything.
