Something That's Important to Me By Talia Criso
Both of my parents work from home. Therefore, they are always at my house. From the time I get home from school until I go to bed they stay on the first floor, whether they are in their office, the kitchen, or watching TV in the family room.Working from home means they're always on calls and concentrating really hard. So, when I'm home I try to be as quiet as I can and not disrupt them. That means using headphones when I watch Netflix in the kitchen, only Face Timing my friends when I'm in my room, and not watching TV in the family room when they work.
There is a small window of time where I don't have to follow these restrictions; when I'm home alone. Don't get me wrong, I love my parents and the fact that they're always around. However, something that's very important to me is my time alone in my house.
Last night they went out all day. I got home and immediately plugged in this huge speaker I have. For hours, I blasted my favorite songs as loud as it could. The base was so strong it shook the room, my favorite part was putting it in the bathroom when I showered. I love being home, whether my parents are there or not, but there's something special to me about being home alone. It's like a freedom, I have an entire house to myself and the ability to go on with my day without interruption from anyone else.
Being home alone also gives me a sense of independence; I cook for myself, which is odd because my dad usually makes me dinner. I like it because I get to decide exactly what I want to eat, and know that I made it myself. That is the type of thing I will do when I'm older, so it feels like a step toward an independent lifestyle.I'm sure anyone who's parents work from home would say the same thing, to be a kid with your parents constantly around, it's a different experience to be in house by yourself; you, the space, and the quietness.

I like this as something important and it's not something I've really ever thought about. I can picture you blasting music!
