My Chimp by Matt Bouma-Hannam

I have always wanted to befriend a monkey.
Now not some giant, ugly, vicious baboon!
But a cute, little chimp.

Chimps have adoring ingredients!
Pink face, protruding ears, big brown eyes,...
brown deserts so vast you get lost
until you recognize yourself in the reflection
...a silly, playful demeanor.

Mine will be without a violent desire in its radiant soul.
Chimps are the most intelligent animals in the animal kingdom.
Mother chimps spread their knowledge to their children...teachers.
Although not an admirable quality in a pet, it is in a friend.

Chimpanzees are an endangered kind.
Such a shame all of these fair features are so sparse.
Silly extroversion and intellect are so hard to find!
It would be a blessing to reach their hearts.

Talents? Sign language, juggling, dancing...
Diet? Bananas!
Pretty, prancing primates, so enchanting.
My thoughts are a monkey extravaganza.

Playing, chatting, adventuring, and laughing.
The unspeakable need for a companion harasses me.
Day to day loneliness makes me limp.
What a life it would be if my friend was a chimp!

**In case you think that I'm nuts and that this was actually about chimpanzees, rest assured. The chimp is representative of someone in my life.**
