The Society by Talia Criso

Warning: Not really a spoiler but tells the plot line of The Society (You would find this all out in the first episode)

The other day I got bored and started watching The Society. It's a show on Netflix that's about a group of teens that go on a field trip, they go on the bus and after a couple of hours the driver tells them that they're back home, that the trip was cancelled. They get off the bus and it drives away, and as they look around they realize their parents aren't there too pick them up. Assuming they just didn't know the trip was cancelled, they go home to find empty houses. They soon understand that they are alone in their town, no one else is there. No adults, no supervision. They also realize that there's no way out of the town, the streets leading out of town have been taken over by the woods. The teenagers are left to fend for themselves, and are really forced to learn survival.

I don't know what I would do in this situation, I think it would be really scary. My family would be gone, as well as the whole life I knew. Nothing would matter anymore, like school or grades. All we would have to think about is how to not die. With no supervision, the kids in the show do a lot of partying and drinking, but at the end of the day they are forced to be mature and make serious decisions. I haven't finished the show so I don't know why they were put in this situation, but I know at the end of the show they will tell me. That's the beauty of TV, is that none of it is really scary because you don't have to worry about figuring it out. But if it were real life, I would have no way of finding out the truth. I feel like If it were me, I wouldn't be able to come to terms with the fact that my life has completely turned around, and just try to distract myself from reality.

I'm trying to imagine my grade in this situation, what everyone would be like. Would they be mature? Would we be able to actually form a society, where we were actually fair to each other and were able to survive together? I feel like we wouldn't know unless we had to, but it's weird to think about.

    This sounds like an interesting show. I think it would be quite a scene if this happened to us.

    I'm definitely going to watch this show it sounds so good. I feel like half our grade would want to be really mature and figure things out but the others would want to mess around and party.

          When I contemplate what is most important in my life, my mind is drawn to my 21-year-old brother, Tom. There are not enough words in the English language I could use to describe what he means to me. I cannot imagine the past fifteen years of my life without him. Not Fate, Just a Coincidence - Sila Paniker

The idea of fate confuses me. I don't really understand how something will happen no matter what you do. It just seems very unlikely. I think we're constantly making choices that lead to occurrences. We make so many decisions a day that it seems impossible that fate can find a way around it all.  Awhile ago, I saw something called the Butterfly Effect, which doesn't exactly relate to fate but it makes sense to me. The idea is that a butterfly flapping its wings can cause a tornado on the other side of the world. Essentially, small changes can have large impacts. In my head, this connects with the thousands of tiny decisions we subconsciously make each day.
