Some Funny News During A Sad Time- Alexa Acker

Right now, we are all quarantined and I guarantee you if you turn on the news, all it will be talking about is the Coronavirus. The purpose of this blog is to inform you about something other than news about COVID-19 and lift your spirits.

1. While quarantined at home, a French athlete ran a whole marathon on his 23-foot long apartment balcony. That's some dedication right there.

2. Ever heard of the game Hungry Hungry Hippos? During a lockdown in a nursing home in Wales, elders passed time by playing a life-sized game of hungry hungry hippos, in their wheelchairs!!
3. Last week, a woman in Mousirri gave birth in the toilet paper aisle of a Walmart after her water broke while she was shopping.

4. If you were driving on the highways in Virginia last week, you may have seen a cow wandering around and causing chaos. It escaped from its farm and was just chilling on the highway but don't worry, it was saved before getting hurt!

5. A 6-year-old Indian boy broke a world record of the fastest speed drummer yesterday, 5,500 beats in 3 minutes!!

6. A couple in New York practiced safe social distancing during their outdoor wedding by having it officiated by a friend from the window of his fourth-floor apartment.

7. A police department in Oregon ordered a state announcement urging people that if they have run out of toilet paper, it's really not worth calling 911.

8. Police in North Carolina arrested a 100-year-old woman on her birthday. She was surprisingly really happy as she crossed going to jail off her bucket list. That's definitely a unique birthday wish!!

I hope that by reading this, it distracted you from the pandemic we are living in and informed you with some odd news that you wouldn't have previously known!!

          When I contemplate what is most important in my life, my mind is drawn to my 21-year-old brother, Tom. There are not enough words in the English language I could use to describe what he means to me. I cannot imagine the past fifteen years of my life without him. Allow me to start from the beginning.           Even when I was an infant, he never failed to take me out of my crib, strap me in my high chair, and cook scrambled eggs for us (at the tender age of six). He did this so my mother could catch up on sleep in the mornings and take care of me however he could. I only wish I could return the favour in some way. Not Fate, Just a Coincidence - Sila Paniker

The idea of fate confuses me. I don't really understand how something will happen no matter what you do. It just seems very unlikely. I think we're constantly making choices that lead to occurrences. We make so many decisions a day that it seems impossible that fate can find a way around it all.  Awhile ago, I saw something called the Butterfly Effect, which doesn't exactly relate to fate but it makes sense to me. The idea is that a butterfly flapping its wings can cause a tornado on the other side of the world. Essentially, small changes can have large impacts. In my head, this connects with the thousands of tiny decisions we subconsciously make each day. There are people I've met or things that have happened and it feels like it was meant to be but they're just a bunch of coincidences that had the ability to change everything.
