Stress- Connor Ailara
In my first blog post I wrote about the main causes of stress by comparing an article to my own personal opinion. The article suggested that the main cause of stress was homework while I believed it to be assessments. However, after 6 more months of schooling my opinion has changed. I still believe that assessments contribute greatly to stress, but I have realized that stress cannot be limited to one main cause. If assessments were eliminated, I and many of my peers would still feel stressed. I have determined that stress is created by the buildup of work in general. Even if the work is easy, it can lead to a great deal of stress. For example, I was assigned one page of easy history homework but forgot to do it the night before because I was doing a project. This resulted in me becoming very nervous when I realized during lunch that I hadn't done it. Then, for the rest of lunch I didn't eat, instead I was scribbling down answers and checking the document in order to have it completed. I have learned that sometimes the greatest amount of stress can be generated from the smallest assignment that you forgot to do, a work shift going late, or a ride showing up twenty minutes after you hoped it would. All of these things can turn a perfectly stress free day into a hassle.

I definitely agree... all of the little assignments build up and create a great deal of stress.
ReplyDeleteI definitely agree. I just missed a bunch of school because of a funeral and then I got sick with a fever, and I can't believe how much work I have to make up!!
ReplyDeleteSchools have a commitment to excellence but that should include student life too. Over in Finland, there's like no school stress because they don't have homework (and they perform better too). I think our education system has grown to the point where people ask too much of students and just kids, in general. I also think the grade-environment is a contributing factor to our stress.
ReplyDeleteWhen coming back from pneumonia last year, it was awful!
PREACH! Like this blog post, I am always pushing it off.
