News that is Overshadowed by the Coronavirus By: Olivia Enderle

Every day, when I get up and walk down into my kitchen and see the news channel we always have on 24/7. But for the past few months, there has been a constant bar on the side with details about the cases and casualties of the coronavirus in each state, country, and the entire world. This constant reminder that the numbers of infected are skyrocketing up. One day I was intrigued to see what else they were broadcasting, and it turned out that it just really the coronavirus dominating the news. Don't get me wrong, I do think it's important to know what's happening with the coronavirus, it's just that it shouldn.t be the whole news. I decided to look up what else has been happening in the world. So I thought that I should shed some light on what interesting and just as important things are happening in the world today.

Kenya has been suffering from its worst infestation of locust in 70 years where the swam occupied an area of the sky almost more than 3 times the size of New York City. If they don't get the help they need, it would be fatal for the people who occupy these lands.

Migrants walk towards the Turkey's Pazarkule border crossing with Greece's Kastanies, near Edirne, Turkey March 1, 2020.Globally, climate change should be another main concern and a top priority in the governments of all countries. NASA confirmed that the Earth just had its second-warmest February since climate records began in 1880. There has been nothing in the news that has mainly focused on the scary fact that Europe recording exceptionally high temperatures for that time of year. Norway, where the normal temperature should be -3°C, hit 19°C in January. This is a problem that should be broadcasted to the world to make everyone aware of how dangerous and unstable climate change is becoming.

Land and Ocean temperature departure from average Feb 2020, using 1981 - 2010 as base period.Europe has a new refugee crisis where tens of thousands of asylum seekers have been desperately trying to get into Greece by land and sea. The European Union is trying to work with countries like Greece and Turkey to see what they can do to allow help to these refugees. Sadly some witnesses reported teargas and water cannons being used to push back people trying to cross the border.

If I never decided to research myself about what else is happening in the world, I would have probably never found out about these terrible events that are happening.
