2020 NHL Mock Draft: Michael Burns

     With the date of NHL Draft not being established yet, it is guaranteed to be streamed from the player's and management's homes just like the NFL draft. This draft is expected to be the strongest in the last five years and one of the best we have seen. There are prospects representing many different nations that will be very exciting to watch in the future. As a result of the uncertainty of the draft date, I am going to make a mock-draft projecting the first seven picks.

 Honorable Mentions: Lucas Raymond, Anton Lundell, Cole Perfetti, and Jake Sanderson.

#1 Alexis Lafreniere           
     Alexis Lafreniere is far and away the top prospect of this draft. He is an elite talent that doesn't come along often. This year he played for Rimouski Oceanic and absolutely dominated as a winger, leading the QMJHL in scoring. He had 112 points in only 52 games! When he is drafted, the team he goes to will be much stronger and will immediately be ready to play next season.

  #2 Quinton Byfield
     Quinton Byfield is the top center prospect in the draft. He is also an elite talent who has superb scoring ability and is 6 foot 5! He is only 17 and is only going to get bigger and stronger. His size makes him a very physical opponent to play against never mind his amazing skill set. This year he played for the Sudbury Wolves in the OHL and scored a ton of points! He may require an extra year at juniors but he will then develop into one of the league's top centers.

#3 Tim Stutzle
     Tim Stutzle is another center prospect for this draft, some may say he is better than Byfield! Stutzle is an incredible talent with an amazing hockey IQ and can rack up points. What makes Stutzle different from all of these other prospects? He is German meaning he had spent this past season in the DEL, Germany's top professional league. In the DEL, he was playing against grown men! If he can dominate against such mature players at age 18, he will be an outstanding talent in the future.

 #4 Jamie Drysdale
     Jamie Drysdale is the bar none top defenceman prospect in the 2020 draft. He played for the Erie Otters of the OHL and is an incredible two way defenceman. His scoring ability is unmatched for defencemen in this draft which makes him such as valuable prospect. He is also a very smooth and powerful skater with an incredible future ahead of him!

#5 Marco Rossi
     Marco Rossi is an Austrian center prospect in this draft and had played for the Ottawa 67's of the OHL. He is a smaller player being only 5 foot 9, but he is a dynamic offensive powerhouse producing over 120 points this season. Also, he will be ready to play in the NHL after one more year in juniors or in the AHL. In the NHL, he will be racking up points and making many highlight reel plays.

#6 Yaroslav Askarov
     Yaroslav Askarov is the first Russian prospect on this list and is also the first goalie on this list. His ceiling is the highest out of all the goalies in this draft and some compare him to Carey Price! He is incredibly calm and has been a brick wall by posting a .920SV% in the VHL! When he is ready to come to America and play, he will be outstanding between the pipes for over a decade!

 #7 Alexander Holtz
     Last on my rankings, but certainly not least, we have Alexander Holtz. A young prolific player from Sweden playing in the SHL. What makes him so special compared to the other prospects in this draft is that he is the best goal scorer in this draft. With an absolute rocket of a shot, Holtz is a major threat on the ice at all times. He can just score at will, when he makes the NHL, he will be on every defencemans radar for years to come!

          When I contemplate what is most important in my life, my mind is drawn to my 21-year-old brother, Tom. There are not enough words in the English language I could use to describe what he means to me. I cannot imagine the past fifteen years of my life without him. Not Fate, Just a Coincidence - Sila Paniker

The idea of fate confuses me. I don't really understand how something will happen no matter what you do. It just seems very unlikely. I think we're constantly making choices that lead to occurrences. We make so many decisions a day that it seems impossible that fate can find a way around it all.  Awhile ago, I saw something called the Butterfly Effect, which doesn't exactly relate to fate but it makes sense to me. The idea is that a butterfly flapping its wings can cause a tornado on the other side of the world. Essentially, small changes can have large impacts. In my head, this connects with the thousands of tiny decisions we subconsciously make each day.
