Around the country, protests, some of which turned into riots, have been started in many major cities including NYC, Oakland, Atlanta, Los Angelos, Cincinnati, Milwaukee, Portland, Houston, and Washington, D.C. There have been a total of ten riots across the country in response to George Floyd's death. Many rioters were happy to hear the officer who killed Floyd has been arrested. Riots will probably continue until all of the officers involved have been arrested.



This week, riots have erupted all over America in response to the killing of George Floyd. On May 25, 2020, a white police officer killed a black man named George Floyd. He arrested Floyd for trying to use a fake twenty-dollar bill. After restraining Floyd on the ground, the officer kneeled on Floyd's neck until Floyd couldn't breathe and died. Floyd was constantly telling the officer he couldn't breathe and to get off of him. Bystanders screamed. There were other officers standing around Floyd who did nothing about it.

In response to this, a riot started in Minneapolis where Floyd was killed. It started as peaceful protests but quickly turned violent. Protesters burned down the Minneapolis Police Station and went to the officer's house and chanted at him. Around the city, looters have begun taking everything from stores like Target and hundreds of other stores have been destroyed and looted.

    I can't believe that officer killed George Floyd and it seems like it was just cause he was a black man because the thing he did that had him getting arrested wasn't even that serious. I'm really not surprised that people have been extremely violent in their response because it was awful what happened to him.

    Floyd's death and the response has been horrific all around. It's so sad and heartbreaking to watch.

          When I contemplate what is most important in my life, my mind is drawn to my 21-year-old brother, Tom. There are not enough words in the English language I could use to describe what he means to me. I cannot imagine the past fifteen years of my life without him. Not Fate, Just a Coincidence - Sila Paniker

The idea of fate confuses me. I don't really understand how something will happen no matter what you do. It just seems very unlikely. I think we're constantly making choices that lead to occurrences. We make so many decisions a day that it seems impossible that fate can find a way around it all.  Awhile ago, I saw something called the Butterfly Effect, which doesn't exactly relate to fate but it makes sense to me. The idea is that a butterfly flapping its wings can cause a tornado on the other side of the world. Essentially, small changes can have large impacts. In my head, this connects with the thousands of tiny decisions we subconsciously make each day. There are people I've met or things that have happened and it feels like it was meant to be but they're just a bunch of coincidences that had the ability to change everything.
