Time Flies by Gabby Ellrott

Every year, school seems to start the same. Do last minute summer work at the very end of August and in September, walk into the first day unprepared- mentally and emotionally. The first week is always fine because you get to see your friends everyday which gets you through it and there’s minimal homework, so you don’t have to worry about much. In some classes you get bigger assignments that are due about a month later and you tell yourself that you’ll find the time to do it eventually, since it seems like you have all the time in the world to get it done. Until one day, you wake up and realize how the assignment is due the next day and you haven’t even started it. The time you had to do it slipped away, which is what happens with your high school years.
You hear people say it all the time: “time flies.” But it really does. I remember talking to a teacher years ago about how that year had gone by so fast. Her response to me was that as the years go by, it just keeps getting faster. I never forgot this, and can now say that she was so right. Each school year keeps getting faster which seems great, because who wants the school year to drag? But with the faster school years, comes faster summers. The precious time we get all to ourselves also starts to quickly slip away. For some reason, I felt it more so this summer and realized that there’s no time to waste. I tried cramming my week with plans in hopes of making summer last longer, but now I realize there’s no way to stretch time, or make anything last forever.
So. How do we make time last? The real answer is that you don’t. You have to make the absolute best of your time. Make memories with your friends, travel to cool places, meet new people, live in the moment, and do what you love! Work hard at school and push yourself. Have dreams and accomplish them, and never forget about your family because they’re getting older too. Our high school years are going to be some of the best, worst, and most confusing parts of our lives and we only have 3 more years to be a teenager and completely live until we have to introduce ourselves to the world. It all may seem like a big cliche, but it's true. Time flies, but you have to learn how to fly with it.

  1. This is true and the sooner you realize it's important to enjoy the time, the better!

  2. I loved that so much and I actually felt inspired. All of that is so true and it was good to hear, especially now that the hard work of school is here, it needed to be said.

  3. The summer before freshman year all of my older cousins told me that "high school flies by so I should enjoy every part of it." At first, I didn't believe them and complained that freshman year was soo looong. But looking back, I now realized how quickly it flew by and it scares me. I enjoyed reading your blog and agreed with everything you said. Good job!
