Why I Sometimes Don't Like School: By Matt Bouma-Hannam
School. A daily climb of Mount Everest.
The days are long; the work is plentiful.
On occasion, we hide from terrorists;
we are taught that this is acceptable.
We learn—we study, although will it last?
Dates, formulas, it is all forgotten;
retention seems like a thing of the past.
Information in my brain gone rotten.
RING! The alarm shouts; it is 6 a.m.!
Sleep deprived but I still head off to school.
I have a test? No! I lost so much R.E.M.!
I was up doing homework, life is cruel.
Despite my love for learning, I admit,
sometimes it would be easier to quit.
Some days can be a challenge. I like that you took a chance at writing a poem!
ReplyDeleteI love how your blog is in the form of a sonnet instead of just a paragraph about why you don't like school. It's very well written!
ReplyDeleteI really like this. You mentioned points that I have heard a lot (and agree with) but it seemed new because of the unique format.
ReplyDeleteI definitely agree, I enjoy learning as well but school can be tough. I also liked how you used phrases like "RING! The alarm shouts" and "I have a test? No!" I thought it created really interesting voice that made the poem (like Georgia said) rather unique.
ReplyDeleteyou have poetic skills!! I relate to this so much.

DeleteThis is a great poem. I like how you took this information and not only wrote about it, but you put it into a creative format that made it more accurate and relatable.

ReplyDeleteWow! I love the creative format as well as the relatability of what you're saying! I apologize in advance but this is giving me major MOLE DAY flashbacks....
