Ex-Nazi Guard Conviction

Igli Haxhillari

In some senses, our future is defined by our actions, what we do, and what we have done. No matter what we do with our lives, our past is a part of us. Just how we cannot deny WWII and the crimes committed, it will always remain a part of Human History. Regarding the second great war, a known WWII guard is being convicted this year in Germany for the murder of thousands as he was a Nazi Guard during the time. 93-year-old, " Bruno Dey," will be on trial for 2 hours each day because of health conditions.

Between 1944-1945, Bruno Dey was involved in the deaths of approximately 5,230 people in Stutthoff Concentration Camp (Poland) and is just now being charged, considered one of the final charges of WWII as most of the convicted have passed away. It is being reported that he had committed murder by the following methods: being shot in the back of the neck, being poisoned with Zyklon B gas, denying people food and medicine, and otherwise preventing the escape, revolt, and rescue of the prisoners. Despite his elderly age, Bruno is being tried in a youth court because, at the time, he was only 17 years of age. Mr. Dey has stated that he knew what was going on inside of the Gas Chambers, saying he knew that the prisoners were only there because they were Jewish, not because they had committed any crimes. While he insists that he had not joined the force voluntarily, he apologizes for his actions.

During pretrial questioning, Dey stated that he was only put on the concentration camps to guard the prisoners because of his heart condition, otherwise, he would've been on the battlefield. Even though he claims that he knew about every murder in the camp, he still pleads not guilty. Some think that it is wrong and irrational to bring such an old man to court, but is it really the case? In his youth, he spent his time murdering innocents and whether or not he says he was forced to do those tasks, there is no evidence that he resisted and he committed the acts under his own mind and control.
