Kids, The Environment, and Climate Change: By, Brianna Burns
Over the past year, we have seen many movements and protests surrounding the topic of climate change and the environment. A lot of these performed by young adults/teens all around the globe. One of the biggest teen climate activists of the moment is Sweedish climate activist Greta Thunberg. Her, and along with 15 other people accused 5 nations of not taking the adequate action of stoping the Climate Crisis. These countries included Germany, France, Brazil, Argentina, and Turkey. Ms. Thunberg attended the United Nations Climate Action Summit, where she delivered a speech. "You stole my dreams and my childhood with your empty words." She says. She then follows up by saying that people are dying and suffering and change needs to be made now. She and others have accused the government of not making climate change their top priority and their lack of urgency when it comes to this issue. Personally, I think the government is holding off due to lack of research. The kids also fear for the future if proper action is not taken, their lives may be endangered. The United States has contributed to more global warming than any other country by carbon dioxide. Violations cannot be done because the part where children are allowed to seek justice for these political offenses, has not yet been ratified through the treaty being created.
This is a really scary issue. I often wonder where we will be in 20-30 years.
ReplyDeleteIs political inactivity in regards to climate change a legal issue or is it just an ethical issue? Are there laws that require political leaders to take action against climate change?
ReplyDeleteNot that I do not believe in climate change, but I feel that we should try to make leaders passionate and informed about changing the pollution problems rather than punishing them for doing nothing.
I believe that kids and teens are the only way for change to occur. This issue affects the younger generations much more than other older generations, therefore they do not take as much of a stand. Kids like Greta Thunberg are the only chance we have left.
ReplyDeleteI think Greta is definitely powerful and it's great to see someone speak out about what they are passionate about! Nice blog post!
ReplyDeleteIt's really inspiring to see people our age standing up for what they believe in. Definitely an example we should follow.
ReplyDeleteRegardless of one's view on the issue, I think almost all of us can agree that it's pretty amazing to see kids our age trying to change the future of our world. The younger generations do truly care about the world's future.
