Mass Shootings in America - Cole Anderson

There have been more mass shootings this past year than the number of days in the year. This should be alarming to most people since most countries in Europe, Asia, the Middle East, and the rest of the world have less than 50 shootings per year. This issue has grown over recent years and has accumulated more controversy in American politics.

While many people identify the cause of the amount of deaths related to guns in America as gun control or behavior or amount of guns being imported, there is likely not one cause. In one case in Kansas City, the reason the shooting occurred was because of behavior since there was a dispute in a bar. The fight at the pub later led to a shooting at the scene around 1:30 a.m. When the first shots were fired, there were approximately 40 people in the bar; 40 people who could have been shot. When the police arrived on scene, however, there seemed to be nine victims, four of which had been fatally shot and five of which had been injured with a gunshot wound.

The police have several suspects and one main suspect, but the Kansas City Police are having trouble proving the suspect guilty since the shooters fled from the bar after shooting. This scenario is similar to many mass shootings in America where the suspect is not always easy to identify. So, unfortunately, many victims have family members and friends who can not get justice for the victim since the killer remains unknown.

The police report disclosed that a handgun had been used at the attack, which is a very common weapon used in shootings. In many places in America, it is very easy to purchase a handgun. Since mass shootings have become a very prominent issue in the United States over recent years, many 18 to 29-year-olds in the US have began to think about their views towards gun rights more. The most significant change in views since 2016, when the shooting in June in Orlando occurred, has been more young people believing gun control should be increased.

  1. This is such an important issue of our time, especially as children in school, where shootings occur as well. Thank you for writing about it.

  2. I think school shootings are an issue in our nation today and we are not doing enough to help protect students across the country.

  3. I agree that this is an important issue and a scary one. Last year was the first time I had students admit in a class that they sometimes thought about what they would do if it happened here and that they worried. I hate that our children are living in a world where this is normal.

  4. This is a serious issue that can potentially affect all of us and it is not getting the recognition and attention it needs.
