The World Series: The Nationals Battle the Astros - Adam Bova
The Houston Astros and the Washington Nationals are currently one game into the World Series and it is already competitive. The Nationals took the lead in the series with a 5-4 win on Tuesday. They are playing game two tonight at eight o'clock. In the American league, the Astros, lead by Jose Altuve, defeated the strong offense of the Yankees. It was a competitive series, but the Astros prevailed winning four out of six games against the Yankees. In the National league, the Nationals, lead by Anthony Rendon, easily defeated the Cardinals. The Cardinals made a good effort early on. However, the Nationals won all four games in the series and earned an easy trip to the World Series. Nobody expected the Nationals to make it to the World Series after they lost their long-time superstar, Bryce Harper. Against all odds, their other batters heated up and they now have a lead against the Astros after game one. The Astros have one of the best pitching rotations in Major League Baseball lead by Gerrit Cole and Justin Verlander, but the Nationals have a high-powered offense with hitters like Anthony Rendon and Trea Turner. Even though they were previously seen as underdogs, many believe that the Nationals will win because of the ease that they've had getting to the World Series. The nationals were previously the Montreal Expos, but they have never appeared in a World Series as a Washington team. It will be a huge, first ever achievement if the Nationals are able to come out on top. Despite the National's sweep of the Yankees, the Astros are definitely the best opponent that they have faced yet, and they will not go down without a fight. The Nationals took a 1-0 lead in the series, but the teams look competitive enough that anything could happen.
