Yemeni Civil War: Michael Burns

North and South Yemen had fought up to 1990, when then they united however, fighting has not really stopped since then. Currently, Yemen is suffering from what has been called the “world's worst humanitarian crisis” in the last 100 years. Many people do not have the essentials that they need to survive like food, water, and shelter. 78.5% of Yemen’s population is in need of immediate humanitarian assistance, including 12 million children. This brutal has also had an effect on children's education. Over two million students are out of school and three quarters of teachers have not been paid for over a year, putting the education of the other 4.5 million students at risk. We should care about this issue because it is basic human decency to help others when they are in serious trouble. In this case, millions of Yemenis are face to face with death, and the only humane thing to do is help them to the best of our ability. If we ignore this issue, then innocent citizens living in the war torn country of Yemen will suffer. As of now in 2019, Al Qaeda, the Houthi rebels, and the Yemeni government are fighting each other to take control of the country. Innocent people have suffered from the fighting causing 80% of the population in need of humanitarian assistance. Without the world’s help, many civilians will continue to suffer from famine and civil unrest.

  1. Thank you for shedding some light on a serious humanitarian crisis in a place not many know of. I agree that it is basic human decency to help others, which is exactly what we should try to do.
