Being Humble and Selfless in our Culture
Philippians 2:4
"Let each of you look not only to his own interests, but also to the interests of others."
Philippians, a book in the Bible, was written by the apostle Paul while he was in prison. This verse is about selflessness and humility. Selflessness means to concern yourself with the needs and wishes of others before you address your own needs. Selflessness goes hand in hand with humility which is to have a modest view of oneself and not to put yourself above others. Pride and selfishness are seen all throughout society which is why selflessness and humility are so important. Being selfish and prideful can affect the person who is being prideful and the people around them. When they are being prideful they are presenting themselves as better than everyone by putting other people down. It can really hurt those people around that person. Being prideful can be a very self destructive and harmful to oneself as well. A prideful person tends to push people away, leaving their relationship with pride to be the only one of value and the only place they find security. When that person's pride is hurt they will fall apart. When one is selflessness, they let people in. A humble person refrains from putting themselves above others even though it may have the power. With selflessness and humility our culture could offer a more friendly, approachable, and happy environment.

I agree with this sentiment. We could certainly use some more selflessness and humility. But there is no name on this - can you email me so that you can get credit? thanks!
