Christmas Gifts then vs. Now December (Comparison) By: Brianna Burns
As we near the holidays, we begin constructing our "Christmas list" that we will soon be sending off to "Santa," otherwise known as our parents. Christmas typically surrounds the time when we both give and receive and over the past 10 years what we have been giving and receiving has changed drastically. So here are the top gifts of 2009 vs now, 2019.
Christmas 2009...
let's go back in time for a moment. Back in 2009, most of us were either 5 or 6 and most of us just wanted dolls and trucks. What some kids were putting on our Christmas lists was the Nintendo Wii. The Nintendo Wii came out in 2009 and was a big hit! The gaming system sold 10 million units by the end of 2009, many of them being purchased during the holiday season. Now, for the younger kids out there, they all wanted Zhu Zhu pets. I don't remember ever wanting these personally but apparently many did because the demand became so huge that the $9 retail value shot up to $60.
Now, here we are, in 2019. As we close on the year and look back, there have been some pretty cool things that have been released.
What you or maybe others will be asking for this year may include the following...
The new airpods released by apple are at the top of many teens Christmas lists. The Airpod pro's as they are formally known as are very similar to their sister counterpart the Airpod. Airpod pro's feature noise cancellation and have become very much a trend amongst teens. Continuing with the electronics many are also asking for either the iPhone 11 or iPhone 11 pro. depending on which one you purchase they contain either 2 or 3 cameras and contain some features that outdo all other phones previously released on the market. But this comes at a hefty price. The iPhone 11 cost starts at $699 and the iPhone 11 pro starts at $999!
Something that really stuck out to me is how there is a higher demand and want for electronics. Back 10 years ago, you would never think that phones would be $1000 and that kids as young as 8 would be wanting and owning a cell phone. Through writing this, I was able to see how drastically times have changed and what interests kids now compared to 10 years ago. My brother owns a Wii, which he got for Christmas, and if you ask me, it has been collecting dust since 2010.

It does change as you get older!
