Escaping the Extraordinary - Sila Paniker
I walked down the empty hospital corridor making my way to the cafeteria. I’d been here since early this morning to visit my dad, and I was extremely bored. Suddenly, a scream woke me out of my daydream. Curiosity got the best of me and I turned the corner, in the direction it came from. A young girl, probably around my age, was running around, slamming doors. Confused, I stood, watching her. Noticing my stare, she came towards me. She ran in a circle around me then stopped to see my reaction. I tucked my hair back behind my ear and asked her what she was doing. I knew I probably shouldn’t get involved with this possible escaped psychopath but my boredom and curiosity got the best of me. Startled for some reason, her eyes widened and she spoke, “You- you can see me?” Confused, I extended my hand for a handshake. “Umm.. yeah? I’m Stephanie.” The girl’s face contorted into a smirk as she held out her hand. “And I’m Elena.” Her hand reached mine but as she went to return my handshake, something happened. Her hand didn’t stop. It went right through mine and I noticed a slight glow in her skin that I hadn’t before. Surprised, I pulled my hand back. “Are you- are you a ghost?” She rolled her eyes at me. “Duh. Took you long enough.” I managed to maintain my composure and asked her another question. “So what are you doing, scaring people in a hospital?” She dragged me back to the empty hallway, laughing. “You looked crazy talking to yourself. We can talk here. I need your help.” My mind racing, I tried to listen as she explained her situation. She told me about her life and how it ended. “...so basically, I’m trapped here and that’s why I need you to help me. Are you in?” She looked at me hopefully. I scanned her face. “Wait, what?” She rolled her eyes, then explained that she’d been trapped in the hospital but knew how to get out. If she knew how to get out, why hadn’t she? When I voiced my thoughts, she responded with sarcasm. “Believe me, if I could, I would’ve. Hanging out here got old fast. I’ve figured out that I need help from someone living but so far, no one has been able to see me. And I don’t know if anyone else will be able to.” I looked at my watch. When I’d left our room, my dad had been sleeping and his nap would last for at least 2 more hours. I looked at Elena. She looked so hopeful. “Ok, I’m in.” // Part 2 coming February

I love this story, especially how it is set in a hospital. That is a cool idea and I am excited for part two.
ReplyDeleteI love how you both wrote from different perspectives and I"m interested to see what comes in February!
