Then vs. Now (November Creative Writing)- Brianna Burns

You wake up on an ordinary July morning in 2012. The breeze brushes your hair back as your eyes slowly open. You take in the warm sunlight, shining through your window. Before doing anything, you run into the living room to see iCarly playing on your large TV. Your mom serves you a small bowl of Cheerios with a welcoming "Good morning".  As soon as your favorite show ends, your mom hands over your pair of light-up sketchers, bedazzled with glitter and rainbows. You both walk out of the house and walk to your local park. Your ponytail sways from side to side as you watch each car drive past, nothing ran through your mind, not a care in the world. That was a different time.
This is now...
You awake. This time it's a school morning. your phone sounds it's alarm. You wake instantly by the blaring, repetitive noises. In your dark room, you shelter yourself under the covers wishing for just a little more time to sleep. After fighting yourself out of bed, you wash the tiredness off your face and immediately make way into the kitchen to make yourself a cup of coffee. With your morning savior, you head back upstairs to your bedroom and finish your typical weekday routine. Your mom has already left for work and started a new job, so there are no more homemade breakfasts for you. Instead, you either opt for some oatmeal with fruit or some yogurt with fruit and granola, you try to eat fast knowing that your time in your home is limited and you will soon have to leave to go to school for the day. You sit in your car and make way to school, and if there is only a little bit of traffic you get to school a little after 7. Just like that, your long day begins.

  1. I miss being a kid and having no worries. It's crazy to read this and fully realize how much our lives have changed then to now.

  2. When I read your blog for the first time, my mood dramatically shifted from happy and joyful to depressed and irritated. I miss the old shows, the light-up shoes, and I miss having no responsibilities. It's still crazy to me that the decade is ending in a few months. Good blog!

  3. This is such a true but sad blog that brought back so many childhood memories. I miss being a kid where the only thing I would worry about were what shoes I would be wearing instead of stressing about the the 5 tests I have this week.
