World Metamorphosis By: Alexandra Gavioli

Flap
Flap
I am pulled through my sea of wind
Swirling towards the ground
I find the familiar
I stop right above the trees
My home feels more barren now
The sea feels closer and the trees more sparse

I rest in trees while I watch the world change

Many of my old resting spots are now barren of leaves
More straight and narrow
With wires strung through the tops

The place I was born changed too
Everything changes so quickly
In the beginning
Everything was warm, small, safe
It changed again

Inching along with the earthy flooring
Until I found safety in the crisp branches
One day the sea of cool wood was suddenly hot
Burning hot
Flames licked up the sides of my home
Tricolor visions covered in smoke
My friends whimpered throughout the smoke
My home was ash

Change again
I changed too
I wanted to escape
I grew with my worries and gained a new perspective

Climbing up towards the sky
I escaped to the sea
I watched as it changed
The water was angry
A typhoon
An endless whirlpool of swelling water
My home is changing

Now I fear it
I fear that one day the water will swallow us whole
I fear that one day there will be no place to rest
I fear the flames will take away everything
Until then I flutter away

  1. This was such a creative idea and done so good. You kept saying how things changed and that's exactly what a butterfly does so it worked well. Love it!
