Anglo Saxon Reference By Olivia Ekeland
I have an addiction to Hulu. I’m sorry but it’s 10000x better than Netflix. Anyhoo, my dad and I love to watch this show called Vikings. Basically, the first few seasons (I’m only on season 3) follows the storyline of a Viking named Ragnar Lothbrok. For those of you who don’t know, Vikings played a major role in Norway’s history (and I’m 50% Norweigan too). So to set the scene, Ragnar was a farmer that challenged the earl for power. Ragnar ended up killing the earl, so he obviously became the new one. Ragnar wanted to travel west because he was told that there was a lot of treasure there, so he traveled to modern-day England.
This vague summary of season 1 took place at the same time as the Anglo-Saxons. Although the name Beowulf isn’t mentioned in the show, Beowulf was also part of the Anglo-Saxon era.
I started watching this show last winter (I took a long pause to catch up with The Walking Dead, thanks Sarah 😝) and I heard “Anglo-Saxon” many times and I had no idea what that meant or why they were called Anglo-Saxons in England, but now I know! Every time I hear the word, my mind immediately rushes back to that infamous tale of Beowulf.
Maybe I should watch this, it seems very interesting! Also, I like how you tied in Anglo-Saxons with a show that you enjoy. Outstanding job.
ReplyDeleteI love Hulu too! I might start this show.
ReplyDeleteDang, I have to get around to watching this! Also I prefer Disney+ over Netflix and Hulu but that's tea I guess. This is super interesting though, it's crazy how connected this show and Beowulf are.
ReplyDeleteI love when things we study in class relate to things outside of class!
