Can you change your destiny? Hayley Ouimette

Is your path already pathed? Can you change what is going to happen in your life? These are the questions that make me second guess every decision I make, whether it will alter how my life will play out. With the new year only 4 hours away, will everything that happens already be predetermined or are my choices what decide what happens? 

No one will ever know the true answer to this so this year, I'm taking every day as it comes. There is no point in worrying about every choice I make when eventually, I believe, everything will work out on its own. This past year I have been so scared to make any decisions with the worry of how it will affect anything in my future. This year, if I feel like it's right, I want to be able to commit to choices and just roll with it, and not worry so much. 

This idea of destiny and my future is about school, college, jobs, everything. It will all work out in the end so as of now, doing things I enjoy like certain sports and activities but also classes I take or interests I have, should be what I'm focusing on right now. My destiny will be whatever it is, with the choices I make, and what is also meant to be. 2020 is a new year, and what happens, happens.

    It is always better to live in the moment. I get that; the feeling of worry the future brings, but we do not need to have everything figured out right now. :)

The idea of fate confuses me. I don't really understand how something will happen no matter what you do. It just seems very unlikely. I think we're constantly making choices that lead to occurrences. We make so many decisions a day that it seems impossible that fate can find a way around it all.  Awhile ago, I saw something called the Butterfly Effect, which doesn't exactly relate to fate but it makes sense to me. I haven't formed my thoughts about this school year yet because it's only the second day but my first day was straight fire. I got to reunite with the friends and meet my teachers and all the good stuff but I did burst into tears after school because I realized that I do actually have to go back every day. Not mentally prepared yet. I may have also just started sobbing because I woke up at 5:30 a.m. but I'm sure I'll have worse states of delirium as the year progresses. In all honesty, every first day of school has been the same for me since I became a sentient being somewhere around the second grade. After a bit of pondering on what story I should put on display for the topic of creative writing, I realized that my idea bank is completely dry. So, as they say, write from experience! The holidays are fast approaching, as they always are and with it, a new decade. 2020. That's a big one. When we look back in time, it seems as if everything gets classified by the decade. The '70s are groovy, the '80s are colorful, the '90s are... slimy? All I can think of is Moon Shoes and Nickelodeon-gak. And Rugrats. For some reason, our culture has always been obsessed with nostalgia. The kids that got inspired grew up, and they draw from their childhood, which then inspires the next generation, who writes about their childhood and so forth.
