Drawing before class By Jack Ginsberg
Compared to college prep classes honors classes come with a lot of freedom. This freedom helps students develop skills for independence and makes them manage their own work. This is very beneficial and prepares students for college, but it also allows students to do stupid things. Some students may save all their work for the last second and produce mediocre work, however I will be focusing on a more light-hearted kind of stupid thing.
My friends and I are always drawing whimsical designs and creatures on the dry erase table before class. This is a part of my school day I most definitely look forward too and enjoy thoroughly. It helps me get all the dumb things in my head out so I can be more serious and focused when class begins. I would consider myself somewhat artistic and I love doodling and drawing so the freedom to do so, even for a couple minutes, is much appreciated. Whether it be a dragon with a human face or a transformer made out of garbage it helps prepare me for learning.
Aside from putting me in the mood for English drawing on the table also helped me develop bonds with the people sitting at my table. Prior to the beginning of this year I hadn't spoken to either of the people sitting at my table. Now after leisurely drawing with them and talking with them we have become decent friends. Out of all my school activities this is most definitely my favorite.

I have noticed the same thing in my class! I think Mrs. Kopp put those tables there on purpose so we can fully express our creativity in class.
ReplyDeleteI like that the tables brought you closer to some of your classmates! They are there to promote creativity and brainstorming! Glad you like them!
