My Hero- By Bella Verdesco
Hero..."a person who is admired or idealized for courage, outstanding achievements, or noble qualities." Right away Spider-Man, Iron-Man, Thor, or Black Widow might have come to your mind, as these four movie characters are portrayed as the ideal heroes. But the thing is, these are just characters in a movie. In real life you won't see Tom Holland scale the Statue of Liberty or see Robert Downy Jr. soaring through the sky. Nowadays, real heroes are replaced by the media and movie industry's version of courageous human beings, while in real life they are all around us. We may not see them as the ideal version of what we make them out to be, but even the simplest of deeds can make a hero in someones eyes. To me, my mom is my hero.
I know choosing my mom as my hero might be cliche, but she deserves it. This incredible woman has to put up with me everyday, and God only knows how hard that is. Besides from what everyone sees a mom as (the one who cooks, cleans, and does the laundry), there is so much more to my mom than what others can see.
When I was about four years old my mom was diagnosed with skin cancer, Melanoma to be exact. At the time I was too young to comprehend the severity of it and I played it as a simple 'cold.' Now that I have grown up and can understand how much she had to undergo, I realize how strong she really is.
From getting a big chunk of her calf cut off, the skin-grafts, and the countless needles, my mom has been through hell and back. Yet, she fought her way through it and lives a perfectly normal life with me and my dad to this day.
She doesn't take any crap and always gets things done. She runs our house like the boss she is and looks flawless doing it.
A hero is not a person who can fly, scale buildings, or shoot webs out of their hands. A hero is a person who impacts your life and shows you the good in the world. My hero is my mom.
