Unplugged - Adam Bova

In class, we talked about what we would do if we couldn't use our phone for 24 hours. That made me wonder what life would be like without any technology. In a world with everything at my fingertips, I would feel a little cut off without technology. The biggest effect would be that nobody would be able to communicate unless it was in person. We wouldn't be able to find out new information about school unless we were there. How would we know if school was cancelled or delayed? We also wouldn't be able to communicate with our parents. There would be no way to text anyone if they weren't home. How would we communicate with friends? If I want to ask someone to hang out, how am I supposed to do it? The only consistent way of communicating with friends would be school. However, if we are out of school, for a break or a snowstorm, then people would only be able to talk to those who live around them. You could always drive to someone's house in order to talk to them, but without a phone, there would be no way to tell them that you're coming. I imagine that if I didn't have a phone, I would probably sleep a lot more than I do now. I would also spend a lot more time with my friends that live close to me, while spending less time with my friends that live far away. Not having phones would certainly have a huge effect on people. It would result in a feeling of being cut off, simply because people are so used to being just a few taps away from texting someone or looking something up.

  2. We are almost reliant on our phones because of how useful they are.

  3. When I was in school, they would play school closings on the radio at like 4 am, so you'd have to get up and listen to it. Then they had phone chains, so one person would call someone and they'd call the next one etc. It is much easier now!
