What New Year Means to Me- Jolie Dottinger
December 31st, 2019 is really here. While any other year it might feel like oh it’s just another end of a year, this one hits different. Not only the end of a year, but the end of a decade. For most of us sophomores and high school students, this was the decade we really grew up in. We got to experience all different phases of interests, sports, shows, schools, and were able to just be kids. As we leap into our new year and new decade, we’ll be experiencing a lot of exciting events that will
shape our future. With the year coming to an end into a brand new fresh start, reflection of the past is the most important way to start off a new year strong.
New Year. As children, this might have a totally different meaning to us. Streamers, party hats, fun glasses with the year as lenses, and surrounded by our friends and which all fall asleep before the ball even drops. Most kids get to live life freely, carelessly, the joy of being a kid. No need to worry about new years resolutions, or an effort to want to improve who they are. They just hop right into the new year in a blink of an eye as if it’s an endless year that just keeps on going. As people grow up and out of their child years, and begin to grow into more mature versions of themselves, they might comprehend the more symbolic meaning of “New Year”.
To me, New Year has countless meanings depending on age, wisdom, and experience. It’s one of those words that no one can describe in even the slightest of similar ways. However, I’ll share my meaning, and maybe in some way it might connect to yours.
Everyone has their ups and downs in each year. That’s life. But, the way each person comes out of that year determines how they’ll conquer the next. New Year to me is a new cocoon. Over 12 months, and 365 days that cocoon develops into a butterfly, but in order to do that, the cocoon has to grow and there must be a caterpillar first. By the end of each year the butterfly of each human being is developed into the best versions of themselves. Even if it takes some time for the butterfly to arise, don’t be discouraged. It’ll come with time, but you can’t control when. As 2019 is winding down and 2020 is flourishing out, take the time to reflect on your year. Erase your mind and feelings of the past year with a new clean slate, and set your butterfly free. It’s a new year, new decade, new cocoon.

This is so good!!!! Really creative, too. The fact that we are entering a new decade is crazy to me.
ReplyDeleteI think the end of a decade is a bigger deal too, somehow it's just wild to think how fast the years go by.
