Confidence by Gabby Ellrott

When I heard this months blog topic, I tried my best to think about what is truly important to me. I could write about my family, friends, dogs, or anything else I'm immensely grateful for, but after thinking about it, I decided to write about self confidence. My self confidence is important to me and not something I think about all the time so I thought it would be interesting to write about it.

Of course my self confidence comes and goes. I really respect people who can genuinely be confident all the time and I would love to know how one keeps it up all the time. BUT we can't confuse this with being egotistical and cocky. There is a clear difference between confidence and an inflated ego. You can simply tell the difference by a persons actions and attitude. But basically, what I'm saying is that if you're confident and always have a light radiating out of you go you! When I say my confidence comes and goes, I mean that in some moments it's there, and in others it's not, and when the confidence goes away, I can easily find where the insecurity is coming from.

When I was young, I can't remember caring about what people thought so this wasn't a topic on my mind. But probably entering middle school was when I started to care. I can remember being the most insecure, shy kid and I had zero confidence. The only thing I felt secure in was my academic life and good grades. At the time I even danced 24/7 which yes, did give me some good confident moments being up on stage all the time but rehearsals and class... I was not confident in. Social media was just an added pressure to be pretty and I rarely felt so at that time. Flash forward to entering High School last year and it was always about grades for everyone in all my honors classes and I was convinced I was in fact not smart enough. So I of course lost my confidence academically. But in other areas of my life, I installed self appreciation and started to slowly gain confidence and apply it to my life.

One could say that confidence is the foundation of our lives which I think is definitely part of it. We only have our own selves as our permanent home, so you may as well start to love who you are while you're here. So yes, I still have many insecurities, but when that wave of confidence crosses over you, it's one of the best feelings in the world and can add light to a really bad day. Although much easier said than done, you just have to be your true self and never let anyone make you feel wrong about who you are or what you do. Find yourself and be proud to be you!

  1. I think this is a great topic because you are correct. Having confidence is difficult, but so important. It does get better with age.
