List That's Important To Me: By Lucy Partin
Something important to me. This has to be one of the hardest topics to write about. I mean there are the clique topics that everyone writes about like friends and family and all that nice stuff. But I think what I care about most is passing high school, so I decided to write a list about how I do it.
Step 1: I don't care.
You see that is the number one thing I recommend if you want to pass high school. You see I do really want to graduate and go to college but I also don't want to ruin my teenage years by stressing about a test that is not going to determine the entire outcome of my life. Some of my friends spend hours stressing about a test or assignment and it really shows. Some people stay up late hours just to finish an assignment and then the stress takes up most of your time causing you to miss out on fun activities with your friends or family. I have never missed a chance to hang out with my friends because I had homework or a test. If I pay attention in class and take a few minutes to review I know that I will be fine for the test and I don't need to miss an entire afternoon of possible adventures just because I have a test fourth period. Also if you don't really care about the assignment in the first place, you won't get your hopes up meaning that when you get a bad grade you won't be as disappointed.
Step 2: Don't bother with homework
I spend an average of 20 minutes or less on homework. This does not include important assignments like essays or study guides because those things do help and count for a large portion of my grade. However, I either spend a few minutes on homework or I don't do it at all. Most of the time my teachers give me homework as "busy work" that has nothing to do with the lesson. Now don't get me wrong sometimes I need the extra practice so Ill do it and ask questions about the problems I had trouble with. However, if I do not see the point in sitting down for 2+ hours trying to do useless worksheets that are only graded on completion. As long as there is something written down you will get a good grade.
Step 3: Pet your dog
My dog is my best friend. He acts like me a lot (he hates people) and will always help me do my homework(by eating it). This although it doesn't help me pass my classes it helps pass time and he is at the top of my list of Most Important Things to Lucy.
Step 4: Snacking throughout the day
I eat on an average day- a lot of food. Most people will tell you that in my classes I like to constantly eat or drink something such as goldfish and pretzels and Coffee. This is a very important step in not failing your classes because it allows your brain to get the fuel it needs to work harder. That is probably not at all true, however, it is very important that I eat throughout the day because then I will not become hangry (anger caused by being hungry) and add more stress to my "stress-free day."
Step 5: Make time for friends
I refuse to believe that out of the 168 hours we have in a week your busy for 168 of them. If you really want to hang out with them then you would make time. It is important that you show the ones you love that you are willing to make time in your "busy" schedule for them. It helps destress and may even take your mind off of school or social media for a few minutes. You may be wondering how this helps me pass high school. Well by marking out time to spend with my friends I feel as if the school work that I have to do after we hangout isn't as bad. This may just be me but because I blocked out the personal time I know that when I come home I still have time that will be used for school and that is it.
Step 6: Dance
We sit in these uncomfortable chairs all day and most of the time never get a chance to get up and have some fun. I suggest dancing because it helps boost your mood and get all your wiggles out so you can focus. It's also fun and if anyone says that dancing isn't fun than they have never done the cotton eye joe.
Although this list includes how to pass high school it is really a list of all the things that are important to me. (plus my family- had to say it in case my mother saw because she would not be, pleased.....Nah I'm joking I'm thankful for them and they are very important to be but this is a different list- one without those clique topics) All of these things I do daily and I seem to be doing pretty well for myself. I have little to no stress and I'm loving life so I suggest everyone give this list a try.
