Meet my Cats by Noelle Hanek

I noticed the numerous blog posts about people's dogs, which were great, but nobody wrote about their cats yet so get ready.
My past self would have never believed it if I was told that I would have four cats in the future, but it happened! Life is unexpected I assume.
Living with four cats, I have learned that no two cats are alike (kind of like snowflakes ha) meaning every cat is different. They all have different personalities that make them unique.

First off, there is Furgus. His favorite things in the world are being pet and eating food. Every day at approximately 4 am he goes into my room and sits his 18 pound body on me and wakes me up for food. However, each day when I arrive home from school he gets very happy and follows me around purring and meowing. He loves getting his fur brushed and he loves water and baths.(so there you go, not all cats hate water I guess). When I leave to go to school he cries, even when he has access to food.  When I was nine years old, my mom and I rescued him from the pound. We chose him because nobody else wanted him and he was untrustworthy of people, but he warmed up real fast after I spent my time working to earn his trust. Now, he is a big love and the sweetest cat there is. (Side note, he only listens to me when I call his name which I guess makes me a chosen one by a cat which is something to be proud of).

Wilson is a crazy guy. He loves people so much that he gets anxiety when he is not around a human being. (In fact he was found by running into some person's house and refused to leave). Every day when I get home from school he clings onto me and gets so excited. He has stuffed animal toys that he leaves at the door when everyone is out of the house. Each night when everyone is asleep he yowls until he realizes no one will get up so he chooses someone different each night to sleep with. When there are guests sometimes we have to put him in another room because he will not leave them alone.

Next is Humphrey, who is secretly a dog. He loves dogs because he played with a bunch of terriers every day in his foster home. When I go to the vet with the other three I cover up the carrier so they wont get freaked out by the dogs there, but not with Humphrey- he likes to be around the dogs. He doesn't meow ever but he yips like a little dog. When ever I eat vegetables I have to be careful because otherwise he steals them and will try to eat them. My brother eats meat but Humphrey never wants any of it which is very peculiar for a cat. He also hates bananas and viciously attacks any banana that is in his sight. He always comes when he is called. He is not much of a lap cat, but he follows me wherever I go. When I do my homework he sits and watches me and if I say his name he yips. He was rescued only minutes before he was going to be put down, but his life was saved in the kick of time. He is a wonderful cat.

Finally we have Chip. He is a very clumsy cat and acts confused all the time. The amount of time he spent as a stray is pretty obvious considering how he acts around the house. He loves sitting on everyone's lap and he is great company. We adopted him this summer- no one wanted him because he did not interact with people. But now, his true personality has been revealed ever since we took him home. He now is a very happy cat. He truly loves people as we found out, and will never say no to a snuggle or a pat on the head. He also is a big fan of tuna fish.

My cats make my day every single day. They cheer me right up if I am ever feeling down, and they never fail to make me laugh. I can't imagine being without them, I am so thankful I have them in my life. To me, pets are important if you are willing to care for them and give them attention(no matter what animal it may be!) They offer excellent company and comfort that cannot be given to you by anything else. However the pure joy of giving an animal a better life than what they had before is worth getting a pet on it's own. My cats were found in atrocious conditions, received zero affection, and spent their days in a cage with other distressed animals. By giving them a home, my cats were able to receive a new life filled with affection, and a life free from abuse. They became completely new animals outside of the shelter, and it is great seeing this change in them. I believe the benefits of a pet and giving an animal in need a great life(usually with cats and dogs but many times other animals can be rescued as well) is something everyone should consider. The rewards of getting an animal companion are endless.
