Music By Sam Stankiewicz

I'm known as the "boy band girl" in the Sophomore class. Yeah, I like boy bands, but music in general is so, so important to me. If you took a little trip to my Spotify account, you'd see eighteen different playlists, for different moods, different artists, and even different times of the day. Music does mainly one and/or two things: hypes me up and/or calms me down. As an example, if I am going to a soccer game or track meet, on the way there I will listen to my "pre-game" playlists, rock or rap...depends on the day. It helps me concentrate and relax, but at the same time, psyches me up for the game/meet ahead. On the other hand, if I am in a sad mood, I made throw on my "emotional" playlist, to yes, make me sad, but it helps...I guess. During school hours, of course I have an accessible "school" playlist which has a mix of throwbacks, modern pop, and rap. Then, there's the random playlists which I can be in the mood for whenever, wherever. Ya know, the classic "rap", "country", "modern pop", "DOPE THROWBACKS", "50's-80's", "tik-tok" and "Disney and Nick FAVS" playlists. There's a few more but I don't listen to them on a daily basis.
Now, it may seem like I'm just someone with a bunch of playlists...I am, but music helps me through my day and like I said, in different moods. Singing and dancing to catchy songs helps my mind overall calm down. It's almost comparable to a "chill pill" if you will. Also, oddly enough, music helps me concentrate more. There is obviously noise in your ears but it blocks everything else out and it's easy to get lost in the song and something like homework at the same time. (LOL, I'm listening to my rap playlist right now) While I am on the topic of homework, I should mention it is easier to retain information while listening to music. Ever hear that if you chew gum while you study and chew the same flavor gum on a test with that information, that you will remember what you studied? For me, music is just like that. For example, If I have a History test on Friday, I can study while listening to my country playlist. On the day of the test, I will only listen to country music, to help jog my memory of the material I covered a day or so ago.
So, if you ever catch me in the hallway and I'm listening the music (I usually am) just know I am either trying to relax, concentrate, or get in a better mood.
Finally, music creates a bond in a friendship. I became such good friends with this girl named Nicole (most of you know her, she lives in Florida now) and it was pretty cool to know she also listened to the same band I did. That band helped our friendship grow, and thankfully we still talk and connect with each other even hundreds of miles apart. If you couldn't tell, music is such a big part of my life...and this is why I totally recommend making it a big part of yours!

  7. I find myself getting more work done when I'm listening to music. There's actually a lot of studies on how music helps you concentrate.

  8. Music is one of those universal languages that just move each of us in different ways.

  9. Although your taste in music actually REEKS, I agree with your point. I listen to a few playlists on rotation--mainly my Eminem or 2Pac playlists--and I associate some songs with feelings. For instance, I have an entire playlist devoted to mad songs to get me pumped for stuff coming up. Unlike you, I don't listen to sad music when I am sad. I like to listen to angry music the most, to be honest.

  10. Music is what got me through 8th grade up until now. I know this is going to sound super cheesy (maybe, idk) but every song I listen comes with a certain memory. There's one Shawn Mendes song I avoid because I remember listening to it on repeat on the way to a track meet in the Spring, and I probably ran my worst race ever that day and listening to it now gives me PTSD. There's one Disturbed song that I love listening to because I remember listening to it on repeat down at the shore with Sarah and Jordyn. Great blog!
