What Is Important to Me - Andy Stefancik
There are a lot of things in the world that are very important to me, so this actually wasn't easy. When I started brainstorming, I didn't want to do anything super stereotypical like my family or my pets. Of course, those things are more important to me than anything else in the world, but I felt like it might be a bit boring to read and to write, so I thought more about it.
After some time of thinking about what was really important to me, and trying to make it a bit less conventional, my mind jumped to skiing. I really enjoy it and plus, it gives me something to do during the winter.
I didn't learn to ski until only a couple of years ago, but since I learned to skate a while ago, I didn't really have any issues learning. Within an hour or two I was already doing pretty well and bombing down the bunny slope. Over time I went skiing more with my friends, and got better where I could do all of the black diamonds at mountain creek. However, the slopes there aren't exactly top of the line, and so when my family and I went out to Lake Tahoe two years ago, I persuaded everyone to go skiing. We went to Squaw Valley Alpine Meadows, which has some of the most difficult terrain in the country. I had fun on the easier trails, and then went down the black diamonds there on KT-22, which was really fun. Once I got to the bottom of the mountain the first time, I realized how much I really love skiing. It is super fun and provides joy and exhilaration to anyone who does it. Getting air on the mountains is the best part because you feel like you are flying. You're so secluded from the whole world, it is just you and the mountain and gravity acting upon you, nothing else. You are only focused on one thing: not falling. There is nothing else you need to worry about other than what is happening in the present, which I guess is why I enjoy skiing so much, and why it is so important to me. There is nothing else to worry about, and I think that it is important to at least have one place, even if it is on the other side of the country, that can offer that to you.

I totally agree. Skiing is one of my favorite things to do in the winter. I can't wait to head out to Lake Tahoe and ski the western slopes!
ReplyDeleteI have never gone skiing before, however, your description of the feeling you get make it sound exciting and it makes me want to go skiing. Great detail and thought was put into this. Great job!
