Beyond the Northeast by Noelle Hanek
I love visiting the shore over the summer. I have spent so many memories at the beach with both friends and family. However my favorite memories of the shore are when I would visit Cape May New Jersey with my family. Ever since I was very young I would go down to Cape May in the summer with my parents, my brother, and my Grandmother. I saw the beach as a place to escape and as a place where fun was around every corner! As a kid my favorite thing to do was to swim in the ocean all day long and let the waves take me into shore. I also buried myself in the sand because no one else wanted too. As I got older I also came to love reading on the beach and listening to the waves wile the sun warmed my body, its just so soothing isn't it? I also am always up for a game of beach frisbee. In addition we watch sunsets together in the evening that are absolutely gorgeous. However as much as I am in love with the beach and the Jersey shore, I really have never gone anywhere else.
For the most part, my whole life has been spent in the North East. I never traveled outside of the country, nor have I been to any other part of the United States (except for when I went to Disney world once in first grade which was a blast and wait, also the DC trip from 8th grade!). This shocks many people when I tell them this, people always tell me how much I am missing out, and I know I am! That is why one day when I am older I hope I will get the chance to see other places and gain these experiences everyone here is talking about!
Besides the shore, I have gone to the New England area with my family multiple times when my brother played travel hockey since they believed I could not handle being left home for a weekend (which i think they were right). But I am so glad I went on those trips as a kid. Usually we would go to Massachusetts, Rhode island, Connecticut, and sometimes Pennsylvania. Even though these were quick weekend trips staying in a dumpy hotel and watching hockey games all day I found these trips to be so much fun. It was also a great chance for me to see what other states were like in comparison to New Jersey. Going on these trips helped me realize that you don't need some big fancy vacation to create the greatest memories with family.
But one day I do want to travel somewhere new. I don't expect to visit every single continent or country, (even though that would be quite awesome), but I hope I will finally get the opportunity to see other places. Whether it be different parts of the United States, or even a different country I plan on one day being able to just have this experience and to fulfill my urge to see other places! When it comes to vacationing, I would also love to spend a vacation in a place I have never been before one day. As of now, I love and enjoy the trips I do go on and relish every moment of it. In a matter of time, patience, and persistence, I will one day visit places beyond the usual for me.

Traveling is one of the best experiences of life. I think it's a great goal to travel to new places! We just got a Wanderlust map where you scratch off places you've been. It makes me want to go everywhere!
