Covid-19 Has Only Hurt The World...Or Has It? -Jolie Dottinger

As we all know, covid-19 has been one of the biggest and quickest-spreading pandemics this globe has ever seen. In fact, you're probably reading this right now quarantined in your house, on your couch in some sweatpants. (But don't worry I am too.) However, while we continue to pout in our dreadfulness let me give you some positive feedback on the impact of this virus. Believe it or not, covid-19 has actually taken a huge toll on this world's environment. Alex Hider from The Denver Channel suggests that air quality has immensely improved... for now. Hider writes, "In February, air quality researchers from NASA reported that there was a dramatic drop in nitrogen dioxide emissions coming from China, especially from Hubei province- the epicenter of the coronavirus pandemic." Not only that but, "CNN also reports pollution in some of Hong Kong's busiest areas have fallen dramatically as government officials have introduced measures requiring many to work from home." Now you might be thinking, that's great but what about the rest of the world? Well, according to some photos and ABC News the waters in Italy have shown more clarity and improvement as boats continue to stay docked. Besides China and Europe, America has also shown improvements such as, "...through the EPA's AirNow air quality index archive shows a decrease in areas with moderate air pollution in recent months." Now I know what you're thinking, that's great but what's going to happen when the pandemic slows down or subsides? Well my fellow bored and lonely friends, it's all up to us. We need to keep the increase in environmental conditions if we want to live on this Earth for much longer. Instead of hurting it like covid-19 is hurting us, let's rise together as a community and family and cure our world (as soon as we can find a cure for ourselves of course!)

  1. Great point! I'm hoping we can all learn from this in some way.

  3. I agree. My family hasn't been out driving as much as we were in a normal lifestyle. With everyone quarantined and not many businesses operating, emissions have decreased significantly allowing for many of the negative environmental impacts to decrease.

  4. This is fascinating, what we're doing(or in this case, not doing) during the crisis...I hope we don't all forget about what we can continue to do.

  5. Though being stuck inside is annoying it has greatly helped the environment
