No Spectators: Michael Burns

Image result for nhl arenas     As of right now, sporting leagues all around the world have either cancelled or suspended their seasons. These include the NHL, NFL, MLS, and MLB. All of these leagues have taken major financial hits as a result to the Covid-19 virus. For example the NHL, they may loose up to 500 million dollars if the season gets canceled and they may have to lower their salary cap. Right before all of these seasons were suspended, there was an original idea to have all sporting events be played in empty arenas. This would prevent the virus from spreading to the fans in attendance and the players. In the NHL, the Columbus Blue Jackets and the San Jose Sharks were set to play the first ever NHL games in over 100 years without fans. This would not happen due to the NHL suspending their season the day before these games were going to be played. The NCAA were going to do the same thing with March Madness, until they decided to cancel that too. The Covid-19 virus has ruined the entire sports industry and will go down in the books as the worst season in sports history. The original idea of having empty arenas would ruin the viewing experience because there would be no exciting crowd cheering the teams on with you. This would also have a poor affect on players because by not having fans, may lead to a lack of motivation and excitement. Could you imagine seeing an NHL overtime goal or a March Madness buzzer beater and all you here is silence? All in all, some things are bigger and more important than sports, this is why all leagues originally wanted to play in empty arenas. As of March 24th, all major leagues have suspended their seasons and empty arenas are now longer an option.

    The idea of having no spectators is so odd. I know they were still trying to have the season, but wouldn't it make it hard for the players without any encouragement, too? Such a strange season, I hope all the sports leagues can come back from this. However, there are some funny memes about not having sports to watch and realizing the other things they are missing out on!

    Just like anyone, I need my sports! Life is so much more boring now, and yea it effects me, but it's killing the professional corporations also!!

    Man, I don't know what to do without having sports to watch. I hope all these professional leagues come back soon for the sake of the players and the fans. Also, nice post!

          When I contemplate what is most important in my life, my mind is drawn to my 21-year-old brother, Tom. Not Fate, Just a Coincidence - Sila Paniker

The idea of fate confuses me. I don't really understand how something will happen no matter what you do. It just seems very unlikely. I think we're constantly making choices that lead to occurrences. We make so many decisions a day that it seems impossible that fate can find a way around it all.  Awhile ago, I saw something called the Butterfly Effect, which doesn't exactly relate to fate but it makes sense to me. The idea is that a butterfly flapping its wings can cause a tornado on the other side of the world. Essentially, small changes can have large impacts. In my head, this connects with the thousands of tiny decisions we subconsciously make each day.
